On 8 December 2006, the SafeTRANS association was founded in Berlin with the founding members Airbus Deutschland GmbH,Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg,Continental Teves AG & Co. OHG, Daimler AG. German Aerospace Center e. V. (DLR),OFFIS e. V., E, Robert Bosch GmbH and Siemens AG

The purpose of the association is to promote science and research in the field of road safety by, among other things, developing and implementing harmonised research and development strategies for processes and methods for the development of safety-critical embedded systems.

Meanwhile SafeTRANS has 30 industrial and scientific members and supports them in the preparation and harmonisation of research and development strategies, summarises the strategies in roadmaps and anchors identified priority topics in national and European funding programs.
